Clear conversations about your money.
Free, independent guidance to help you make money decisions with confidence.
How we can help
Money is part of most life decisions—where we live, how we work, and choices we make about what comes next. When you can see your situation and options clearly, it’s easier to make informed choices.
We are Money Unfiltered Charitable Trust, working with people who live in Ōtautahi Christchurch. We offer free, independent financial education and guidance for people who want to use their money to help them live the life they want now and in the future.
Our service is free and provided by qualified volunteers. We do not sell financial products, earn commissions, or accept funding from financial firms. As a charitable trust, our purpose is to improve financial wellbeing, not generate profit.

When people talk to us
You might come to us because
-
You want a clearer view of your financial position and where you could make some worthwhile adjustments to achieve your goals.
-
Life has happened, your plans have changed, and you’d like to reconsider what this means for your financial future.
-
You’re weighing up decisions like buying a home, changing jobs or investing and want advice specific to you.
-
You’ve been learning more about personal finance and want to apply what you've learnt to your specific circumstances.
-
You’re approaching or thinking about major life stages such as having children, retirement, or supporting family, and want to review your financial needs and plans for the next stage of your life.
-
You’d value a neutral second opinion on advice you’ve already received.
It’s common for people to put off money decisions or to feel uncertain about past choices. Our focus is on what is possible from here, not on judging what's in the past. Our conversations are practical and confidential. You’ll leave with a clearer picture of your options and more confidence in your decisions.
What you can expect to get
After our conversations you will usually have:
-
A straightforward written picture of where you stand now.
-
Two or three practical options for your next steps, with their main pros, cons and trade‑offs.
-
A clear idea of which decisions to make now and which to revisit later, and the option of a follow‑up conversation once you’ve had time to think things through.
Our role is to give you time, space and structure to think through money decisions.
We’re not a financial mentoring service for people experiencing immediate financial hardship. If you are in this situation, contact Money Talks to get urgent support.
Think you need everything perfectly organised before you talk to us?
Absolutely not. People come to us with the information they have available at the time and a list of concerns rather than neat spreadsheets. We start wherever you are.
Let's talk
Email hello@moneyunfiltered.org.nz with a brief note about what’s on your mind. It’s enough to describe your main concern, and we’ll work out together what to cover next.
“Money related conversations can be really uncomfortable. With family and friends, it can be awkward and truly independent financial advice can be expensive, so where do you go if you want to talk about it? That’s the gap we’re helping to fill. We’ll answer your questions, discuss where you’re at now, and help you think through how to work towards the future you want. We’re here to help you feel more informed and confident about your money related decisions.”
